Can this soft starter withstand surge voltages?
Yes, the component can tolerate surge voltages. This soft starter is built to withstand sudden voltage spikes and has an impulse voltage rating of up to 4kV (kilovolts). This protects the motor and its components from damage.
Soft starters were developed to overcome the drawbacks of direct on line (DOL) and star-delta starting of single and three phase a.c. induction motors, such as high starting currents, voltage peaks and mechanical snatch. Allen Bradley motor starters provide advantages such as energy saving through reduced peak kVA, reduced starting torque, prolonged equipment life, minimised voltage dip problems, allowing minimum cable conductor size, and elimination of high current transients; when a 3-phase motor changes from Star to Delta.
